Our engineers then took their design one step further by incorporating a tow hook receptacle into the intercooler mount so you’re never left stranded. Our SnailWorks© Engineering Team set out to make this intercooler upgrade not only the most effective on the market but simple to install. Using the included mounting hardware, the intercooler neatly and securely bolts into place so you or your trusted mechanic can install it quickly and easily. While no trimming of the front bumper is necessary for installation, many customers choose to trim the bumper opening to better show off their AMS intercooler and give it that custom look.

As seen in the graphic below, a number of OEM features are relocated for improved performance and functionality. The ambient air temperature sensor has been relocated to a more central, unobstructed location for improved temperature readings. As well as the windshield washer fluid filler neck has also been relocated to improve access. As mentioned above, the tow hook mount has been integrated into the intercooler mounting bracket to retain functionality of the tow hook, whereas competitors lose the ability to use the tow hook. Our SnailWorks© Engineering Team has thought of everything to not only improve the performance of your vehicle, but also improve the overall user experience.

The design of the new AMS Performance BMW B58 Intake Manifold positions it to be the best performing, highest quality, and easiest to install manifold on the market.

Our AMS Snailworks© Engineering Team has spent hundreds of R&D hours refining the AMS Performance BMW B58 Intake Manifold to be as efficient and effective as possible. Utilizing Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis software, our team has been able to verify the geometry of our A356 T6 cast aluminum plenum and runners to optimize mass flow rate distribution to each cylinder. By taking this additional design step, our engineers have gone the extra mile and allowed for an equalization of airflow to within .5% to each individual cylinder port!

Properly Implemented Port Fuel Injection

The 3.0L B58 engine found in various modern BMW models is a German engineering marvel. Unfortunately, the factory direct injection system is not conducive to making high horsepower or using ethanol flex fuel, which has led many owners to install port fuel injector spacers sandwiched between the cylinder head and factory intake manifold. During the R&D process of the AMS Performance BMW B58 Intake Manifold, our team knew they wanted to incorporate an optimally designed secondary port fuel injection solution as an option for customers.

By moving the injector ports onto the manifold runners themselves, we are able to properly angle injector nozzles directly at the intake valve and combustion chamber instead of at the wall of the intake runners where fuel can puddle. Our team went one step further with this concept by flush mounting the -8AN fuel rail to the manifold and pocketing the runners to allow the injectors to have an even more direct path to spray perfectly atomized fuel to the engine for maximum combustion efficiency.

Parallel Split Core Design for Optimized Coolant Flow

The most significant design element of the AMS Performance BMW B58 Intake Manifold is our parallel split core design that allows us to route coolant from the middle of the unit instead of from one end to the other. This coolant flow routing reduces water pressure drop and increases flow rate at a given head pressure, meaning coolant can easily move through the system and expel heat efficiently. This split coolant flow design delivers consistently cool water to every cylinder by matching the coolest water (fresh from the heat exchanger), with the coolest air (furthest point through the intercooler), to maximize heat transfer across the length of the cores.

The 1250+ HP rated twin cores themselves have also been optimized for not just coolant flow, but for airflow throughput as well as reduced pressure drop. The AMS Snailworks© Engineering Team has struck a fine balance between airflow to the engine, and allowing the heat exchange process to cool that air. This is done by optimizing the dimensions of our proprietary parallel cores to allow for intercooler design elements like our custom spec fin densities on both coolant and air sides, fin height, and water passage size.Includes

Designed using Solidworks 3D CAD software, these end tanks have improved flow over boxy sheet metal end tanks found on other intercoolers. We then took it one step further. AMS Engineers designed the organically shaped carbon fiber ducting to make use of every millimeter of available space for the ultimate power producing charge of cool air. The organic carbon fiber lower ducts allow the heat to transfer to atmosphere instead of soaking into the intercoolers.

Counter-Flow Design For Improved Efficiency

The factory intercooler system on the VR30DDTT engine leaves a lot of room for improvement. Starting by designing the AMS Heat Exchanger to expel excess heat in the system, our team then looked at alternative methods to improve the cooling system by increasing coolant flow and capacity with the AMS Auxiliary Coolant Pump, and Auxiliary Coolant Tank. We knew as time went on the platform would advance to higher and higher power levels that would necessitate better cooling, which is why our AMS SNAILWORKS© Engineering Team went back to the drawing board to push the INFININTI Q50 & Q60 platform even further.

The AMS Performance INFINITI Q50/Q60 VR30 Intercoolers completely rethink how VR30DDTT intercoolers can be designed. While nearly all aftermarket air-to-water intercooler cores feature a conventional cross-flow design, our engineers identified that a counter-flow system can allow for improvements in thermal efficiency due to the way they pair the coolest water with the coolest air, inside the core. The AMS Performance INFINITI Q50/Q60 VR30 Intercoolers are properly engineered for maximum thermal transfer.

By massively increasing the volume of the core and optimizing the thermal transferring surface area compared to OEM, you gain an extraordinary amount of added cooling efficiency. The AMS VR30 Intercooler cores are an astounding 70.4% larger than the factory intercooler cores. You gain increased thermal efficiency for the entire intercooler system by accommodating this additional heat transfer capability. Better Data Through Proper Engineering Design

One of the most important systems on the VR30DDTT engine is the Temperature Manifold Absolute Pressure (TMAP) sensor, and how it functions to inform the ECU’s compensation tables during engine operation. The location of this sensor on OEM and other aftermarket intercoolers places it in an isolated pocket of air inside the intercooler end tank. This leads to considerably delayed temperature readings, delaying important temperature related calibration strategies from taking effect. Our AMS SNAILWORKS© Engineering Team was able to optimize this sensor location to allow for more responsive and accurate temperature data.
